If there be here any hidden Catholics, let them pray for me, but the prayers of heretics I will not have. - John Ogilvie
☆1580 †1615

John Ogilvie was a Scottish Jesuit priest who converted from Calvinism to Catholicism while studying in continental Europe, returning to Scotland in 1613 to minister secretly to persecuted Catholics in Glasgow. His clandestine ministry lasted less than a year before his arrest for refusing to acknowledge King James VI’s authority over the Church. He was hanged at Glasgow Cross on 10 March 1615; tradition holds that after his execution he threw a concealed rosary into the crowd, which reportedly converted one of his enemies to Catholicism. He was canonized in 1976.
